In the present work, the best shell wall thickness of a mould cavity was investigated in a process capability study of a rapid casting solution for aluminium alloys using threedimensional printing (3DP). Starting from the identification of a component/benchmark, an aluminium-alloy casting prototype was produced with different shell wall thicknesses by three dimensional printing. The results of the study suggest that, at the best shell wall thickness (5 mm) for aluminium alloys, the rapid casting solution using a 3DP process lies within the ±3.999 sigma (σ) limit.
