Abstract

Marine energy is gaining more and more interest in recent years and, in comparison to fossil energy, is very attractive due to predictable energy output, renewable and sustainable, the Horizontal Axis Hydrokinetic Turbine (HAHT) is one of the most innovative energy systems that allow transforms the kinetic energy into electricity. This work presents a new series of hydrofoil sections, named here NTSXX20, and was designed to work at different turbine functioning requirement. These hydrofoils have excellent hydrodynamic characteristics at the operating Reynolds number. The design of the turbine has been done utilising XFLR5 code and QBlade which is a Blade-Element Momentum solver with a blade design feature. Tidal current turbine has been able to capture about 50% from TSR range of 5 to 9 with maximum CPower of 51 % at TSR=6,5.   The hydrodynamics performance for the CFD cases was presented and was employed to explain the complete response of the turbine.

Mourad NACHTANE was born in Casablanca, Morocco, in 1993.  He received the B.Sc. degree  in mechanical engineering in 2014 from University of Hassan II Casablanca. Morocco. And the M.Sc. degree in renewable energy and energetic system in 2016 from University of Hassan II Casablanca. Morocco.  Currently he is working toward the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering at the National Institute of Advanced Technologies of Brittany and the    University of Hassan II Casablanca. His main research is currently focused on sustainable development, renewable energies, and more specifically composite materials for renewable marine energies.He is member of the French Society of Metallurgy and Materials (SF2M), President of the Innovation and Renewable Energy Development Club at the Faculty of Science Casablanca, and he is member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the World Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (WASET). His research results have been crowned by several prizes notably that of the first prize of the French navy in France, Category engineering sciences, in 2017. And the second prize of the university competition for research and innovation “CURI 2017” in Morocco

Mostapha TARFAOUI was born in BenSlimane, Morocco, in 1967. He obtained his Ph.D. of Engineering Science (Faculty of Science, University Haute Alsace, France) in 1999 and M.S. Physics and Applications (Faculty of Science, University Haute Alsace, France) in 1993. After receiving the Ph.D. degree, he joined the National Institute of Advanced Technologies of Brittany Brest, France, as a Professor of mechanics and materials. His main expertise is focused on the composite materials behaviour and composite materials for renewable marine energy. This includes the static and dynamic responses involved in the shipbuilding structures to finite element analysis. He has expertise in Dialogue test/calculation in the heterogeneous structures relationships and numerical modelling. He is member of Organization committee and Scientific committee of the international Congress (ACMA, JET…), and memberships of AFM (French Association of Mechanics), AMAC (Association for Composite Materials) and AF3M (Association Franco-Maghrebian of Mechanics and Materials).
