The project is on the design and fabrication of foldable furniture constructed from 2 mm mild steel sheet metal via laser cutting technology. The aim was to produce light, sturdy, and compact furniture items that do not need assembly by screws, welding, or adhesives. The process began with idea sketching, followed by 3D modeling through computer-aided design software to design two chairs and two tables with interlocking slot mechanisms. After laser cutting, components were finished by grinding and sanding to remove burrs, achieve smooth finishes, and maintain surface fractures from corrosion. The components were assembled to check dimensional accuracy and fit, then spray painted for better appearance and protection from corrosion. 2 fordable chair and 2 table designs were subjected to physical and simulated load testing to ensure structural integrity and consumer safety. Tests showed that the furniture could be built efficiently, was stable under normal loads, and met all requirements in design. This project shows how sophisticated manufacturing methods and computer-aided design can efficiently produce functional, eco-friendly, and cost-effective fabricated products.
